PacketExchange launches international music editing service

Hi-tech communications specialist, PacketExchange, has announced that its ProXimity wide area peering service is to made available to the music recording industry.
The move, which will introduce new levels of speed and security to the process of sharing music files between different locations, is set to revolutionise the options available to producers and minimise the risk of piracy through interception or other forms of information loss. ProXimity is a network communications service based on Ethernet technology which gives users the facility to establish secure private connections, known as peering links, with any other company or organisation which connects to PacketExchange network. This means that for the first time, music studios in Europe and the US can be networked together outside of the public internet and exchange information via a service that exists beyond the Ethernet ports that are located in most modern buildings. This is achieved without the need for traditional IT networks to be physically connected in the same geographic location.“Around the world, the entertainment industry is struggling to edit music and films between studios in different cities or countries,” said Kieron O‘Brien, CEO of PacketExchange. “Until now, it has continued to be common practice to send near final material through the post or other forms of insecure communication, running the risk of precious material being lost or stolen, or the quality being impaired.”
He continued: “ProXimity stands to change all of this, providing a secure pathway for large quantities of data to be shared between studios, quickly and securely in time to meet production deadlines.”
Expansion of its ProXimity service to benefit the music recording industry and other sectors marks the commencement of an ambitious phase 2 network plan for PacketExchange. To ensure that ProXimity is available to all who need it, information exchange is priced on a pay as you use basis and because the London based company uses multiple providers of communications capacity, 100% network availability is guaranteed. Connection via a router and Ethernet port is quick and efficient.
